Hello guys.

Does anyone have H2 wheels with 285 or 305 tires on a non-lifted 2500HD?
Pix?
Will they fit without major rubbing?
Backspacing?
I think they are a cool looking low maintenance wheel.
See a bunch of them for sale in the local papers and on ebay for around $300-$400.

Thanks Steve

Steve,
I am not sure what size the H2 wheels are but 305/70/16 tires will fit if you level the truck with the torsion bars. I did not trim the air dam and they don't rub. I will try to find some pics to post. Robert

I think the H2 brings 315-70-17. That is what I will like to put on my 2500hd, but I'm not sure if they will fit.

the h2's 315/70's are 35" tires, so the necessary lift would be required to clear, but they should fit.

has anyone put a set of H2 rims with some 33x12.50x17's or similar tires on a 2500HD? TrXus makes that size in a 10 ply tire, I was thinking of using those for my pulling tires.

305/70R17 is a 33.8" dia. x 12" wide tire.
I just ordered the chrome H2 wheels yesterday.

the 285/75R16 is 32.8" dia. and they seem to fit ok. I don't think 1/2" on the radius (dia. divided by 2) will make much dif.

Who is running 305's on a 2003 GMC? I know the clearance on new bumpers are differnent even between Chev and GMC. When I change tires I want 305's.

I just did some measuring.
Currently running 255/85-R16's. They are supposed to be a 33" tire.

I measured the space from the tire to the nearest bumper corner and got about 2 3/4"

I figure an inch larger dia. tire than I have on now should fit fine.

I think I'm gonna try the 305/70-R17 on my new H2 wheels.

Depending on what the backspacing is of the H2 wheels, I think you're gonna have rubbing problems when turning. My tires spec out at 32.7" tall x 11.23" wide, wheels are 4-3/4" backspacing, and I get a slight rubbing at full lock. Torsion bars are cranked up 4 turns from stock (truck sits nearly level, just a hair low in front, but nearly imperceptible).

Good luck, Hoot!

Let us know when the lift is going on! ;)

I checked my bars. No threads left.

Looks like I'll stick with the 285/70-R17.

Found....
BF Goodrich AT T/A KO 8 ply
BF Goodrich MT 8 ply
Goodyear MT-R 8 ply

All others are 6 ply.

I'm asking Nitto if they have one coming soon. Waiting for a response.

On edit.... I called Nitto... next year.

Hoot...I got a set of wheels coming also...I was told that a 285/70/17 would fit without having to lift the truck......We'll see in about 5 days.

I found a few more choices for approx 33" diameter tires to fit 17 x 8-9 rims which includes the H2 rims...

BF Goodrich AT T/A KO 8 ply $199
BF Goodrich MT 8 ply $199
Goodyear MT-R 285/70-R17 8 ply $227
Goodyear MT-R 305/70-R17 8 ply $238
Dick Cepek Fun Ctry II 33x12.5R17 8ply 2600lbs $
ProComp All Terrain 33x12.5R17 D rated 2600lbs $173
ProComp All Terrain 305/70-R17 D rated 2600lbs $173
ProComp Mud Terrain 33x12.5R17 D rated 2600lbs $197
Parnelli Jones Dirt Grip 33x12.5R17 D $216

Still working on this list.

H2 wheels are 5 1/2" back spacing. I beleive that helps.

hoot,

change your torsion keys. I installed the hill levelling keys (no one flame me for choice if you you think f@rd keys work). my truck is level and I have plenty of threads exposed and CV angles look fine.

Went with the 305/70r17 ProComp All Terrains.

$685.95 shipped. That's 169. each + 10. handling.

Dia. is 32.5

I blame 8.1 HD for this one

hoot,

the keys were not to bad to swap out, would suggest using a torsion bar unloading tool though. One side went fine with just the 5 ton gear puller but I could not have installed the drivers side without the torsion bar tool it just had more oomph...... Maybe just me, but the new keys do not seem as stiff as just cranking the bars with stock keys.... hill4wd.com has 'em for 149 although I have read that f*rd keys work and they are 50 bucks. let us knwo how the tires work out I am interested also !

Bullet,

Don't forget, these whels have 5.5" backspacing so the tires might clear fine with these wheels but not on other wheels.

ski,

I removed torsion bars way back in 1992 on a 1500. I made my own unloading tool out of the old leaf spring "U" bolts and a piece of steel. I think I still have it laying around somewhere.

Well Guys. I am going to try to mount the Nitto 305/70/R16E's on 8" AR rims tomorrow. We will see if they fit. I am concerned about the plastic Lower Air Dam/ Bumper being in the way. Would really like to not have to shave it if possible.

Put H2 rims and original tires(315's) on my C2500HD today and all looks great. I have a 3" spindle lift on the front and no lift on the back. I have installed a full airbag suspension on the back but there is no lift to it. Love the way the tires and rims look. The clearance on the inside is the same as my 285's on stock rims.

Hoot please hurry up with the H2 wheels and 305 tires.
Today I bought a set of the non chrome H2 wheels. I don't know which tires to run yet, but the Pro Comps do look to be the best choice.

Have you figured out a way to mount your factory center caps yet? I am thinking about a couple of ways to mount the caps.

Let us know what you come up with.

SteveM,

I was just surfing Ebay for Chromed Hummer Rims and came across one auction that offers stock (Modified) center caps. They have pictures at the very bottom of the auction of both the GMC and Chev center caps with close up's and mounted on the chromed Hummer rims. WOW, these look GREAT!!!!

I'm really tempted to make the switch! Those Chromed 17" hummer rims are the best looking rims for an HD!!!

As you can see by the cap pictures, they had to trim the center caps way back. It looks like you could do it with a milling machine or a lathe very easily.

Check out this Hummer Wheels Auction on Ebay Item # 2412964077 look at the Pictures at the very bottom.

Got the wheels last night. I pulled a center cap off my truck. Looks like they fit perfectly. I won't know for sure if there are any issues until I get the tires and put it all together but I have no idea why the place on ebay is using the old style caps.

The PYO caps look exceptionally good on these wheels.

Tires are in transit. What a difference this will make in the look going from 255 wide to 305 and these rims.

Wheels and tires are on.

No exaggeration all I can say is incredible. I guess going from those skinny 255's to 33/12.5's really makes a difference in looks.

The wheels are outrageously nice. The front Hummer caps fit.

The setback is the ticket.

No rubbing at all. No BS. Fit excellent. My bars are cranked same as before. about 5 turns. I didn't have to do a thing,

I don't have time tonight but tommorrow I'll get the pics up. I love the setup.

Major improvement. Second looks?..... Whaaaat? :D :D

Hoot.......been waitin for the results....it's about time...ya been keepin me glued to the screen all day!! :D :D 17" tires in a size that fit our trucks seem to be quite limited...unless you want to run a mud tire....looks cool, but I've had enough of that noise! I'll probably go with the same set up you did...can't see many more options. Do you think the load capacity of the H2 rims is adequate?

No clearance problems at all. Those wheel wells ain't as bad as I originally thought. I don't even think I'll be doing any trimming of the air dam.

hoot,

I have been watching these threads. As far as cap nub trimming when I did my set "the pend" sold me my M&T tires and wheels and I purchased on his idea clear rubber drawer bumpers. They work awesome and come on a sheet. I used them on caps only when I use the M&T's and stock I use an extra set on the wheels so I make up the space I need.

Anyway, LUG NUTS!!! what are you guys running??? I need to know if the stockers will work??

I am waiting for a set on E-BAY to end so I may be joining the H2-MAX group :D If you don't mind, how much $$$$$$$ was it all???

Thanks,

I got a set of stock H2 rims (not chromed) for $225. I'm using my H2 rims for a set of pulling tires that probably won't ever see the street so I couldn't justify $800 for the nicer looking chrome rims.

I got the tires mounted and put them on the truck. This rim & tire combo doesn't come any closer to the air dam or wheel well liner than the 285x75x16 BFG AT's on the stock 16x6.5" aluminum rims. When I put on the BFG's I did raise the front of the truck 1" with the torsen bars. Also, on the drivers side, I had to zip tie the front of the wheel well liner forward because the bottom of the washer fluid tank pushes on the the wheel well liner.

The silver center caps that come on the silver factory painted steel wheels match the non chromed H2 rims perfectly.

I just picked up my H2's with the 315's. I'm going to put them on my 03 chevy in about an hour. For now I am just going to crank the bars up as I have a RCD 6"kit going on this weekend. Just want to see the difference. Picking up the m/t classic 2's on friday. Plan is to run the 315's off the h2 wheels on the m/t's with the lift and sell the pyo's and the h2's.

H2's with 315/70-17's no lift, Trimmed the frt air dam, trimmed the frt of the plastic inner fender well, 6 turns rubbed a bit in the rear of frt wheel well. Cranked 2 more turns, Rubs 2 out of 10 time, very slightly going up curbs and into driveways at full lock. Ride quality feels a bit more like a truck now. Surprised my buddy as he thought for sure the ride would be terrible.

Elowe65,

You may have more serious rubbing if you flex the suspension on a turn.

Also, you might not get those wheels on if you use a spindle lift suspension kit. They may hit the new spindle.

NickLeinonen,

Thanks. They have worked out great.

I received a call from a friend with dealer connectins and can pick up new take-off H2 wheels/tires for well below market. Instead of replaceing my 245/75/16 Bridgestone's, I will go the lower cost route on the H2's. The 315/70/17's have a D rating and look to have good load carrying capacity. Has anyone towed with them and posted results? Also, unless someone has a low cost 4x4 lift plan (2002 model), I guess I will go with cranking up the torsion bars, trimming the air dam and tying back the inner liners. Any help on number of turns and/or pictures would be appreciated.
