As I have posted recently, every time diesel fuel goes up in price, the validity of moving 10K loads of cargo behind light duty trucks increases. To do it for a living, you still have to play by the DOT rules, get proper insurances, etc. but you could start out supplementing your income with some 'paid for vacations' by hauling small stuff for hire, well under the radar. (Motorcycles, <=18'-20' boats on thier own trailers, household goods, etc.)
