I had to replace both my heads on a 03 6.6 at 66,000 miles, Only mods were exhaust and and air filter, I tow a bass boat on flat ground. The heads were eroded real bad were the injector cup seats to the bottom of the head, it looked like someone had chizeled the surface away, Can anyone tell me why this might happen, I am concerned this will happen again, Thanks David :(
It's my opinion that a long-term chronic combustion gas leak into the cooling system alongside the stainless-steel injector cup is the cause. Some of it could be due to Dex-Cool coolant reacting with the gases and some could be due to the high-temp gas cutting. Either way, it's because of an injector cup seal leak. We most often hear of this happening sometime after an injector replacement (the seal(s) is/are broken, and the cups are not resealed).
