Hey Folks,
I would like to know 0 to 60 times for both the Duramax and 8.1 engines. I NEED to know I am not getting a sluggish truck like the D**ge and F**d trucks. Thanks for this. I am almost set on the Duramax, but this will confirm it for sure. Thanks.

Duramax 1/4 mile w/juice - 14.71 @ 90.74 mph
-
powerstroke w/exhaust, injectors, chip and juice...13.2 in 440

I can hit 0-60 in about 6 seconds flat at 7400#ish weight, and a single power box. Will be much quicker when the Allison is tightened up!

IIRC, my stock CC SB Dmax (about 6800# based on posts here) and 33" tires did 0-60 in about 8.6 - 8.8sec. Very fast for a stock diesel. Juiced, I'm getting 6.2sec. Within 2/10sec of a 275hp 5.0L Mustang at about 3600lbs.
Properly driven in T/H mode, no stock PSD or CTD should be able to keep up with you. Juiced, they'll have to do more mods than you to keep up. And you'll still be able to listen to the stereo as you pull away... :D

Yep, I got first hand experience this past trip. I was cruising with an empty 30'enclosed car trailer and approching a hill. I kept it on cruise and as I was a third up the hill a D*DGE with a full head of steam with a empty horse trailer came close to passing me. Halfway up the hill the cruise downshifted and I left him like he was standing still. :D You gotta love it!!!

I read in Four Wheeler Magazine that the times on a Duramax from 0-60 was 9.6 seconds, & the 0-60 times on an identical truck (the Duramax was Chevy & the 8.1L was GMC) with the big block was 11.4 seconds.
Those tests were done on 2001 trucks.
The only category the Big Block beats the Duramax is from 0-30MPH, & it is still not very much.
Duramax Beats it in the Quarter Mile, 0-60MPH & 50-70MPH acceleration.

James S, The only head to head test I read is in the Oct. 2000 Trailer Life issue. The CC 4X4 Chev DMAX/Allison ran 9.5. The GMC EC 4X4 8.1 with 4:10s ran 9.0. 0 to 60 towing was a different story. DMAX 24.4, 8.1 30.3secs. Later! Lone Eagle

James S,
Truck Trends Magazine shows 8.6 for a 2001, CC, SB, 4wd,Duramax. BTW, if you were to try and modify an 8.1 to keep up with a modified Dmax it would cost you about 3G's for a supercharger, and you would have to run premium fuel, plus your mileage would still suck! Really, ask yourself how many miles you plan to tow and how long you might keep this truck. Stock verses stock the 8100 has the horses although.
