    Default Won't start when hot

    I have an 03 Duramax now with 101000 miles on engine. I has given me starting trouble when warm for the last several months. Cranks, won't start. In the AM the primer pump may work. I just finished putting out 4 grand to our local GM dealer for a new pump, & new batteries which took seventeen days to order and install. Not a happy camper! I think I still have the problem, I will know next week when on my calls.

    101K???? Did you know your engine, including the fuel system, is covered under a 5 year, 100K warranty ($100 deductible would apply)? With only 101K on it, the dealer should have covered this under warranty, especially if you had made a complaint of the problem before it was over 100K. How many miles on it when it was first sold?

    Other possibilities include fuel leakage, either before the fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, or the injector(s). Your injectors should be covered for 7 years or 200K (no deductible), if they are leaking or causing high return rates (my guess of your problem). Long cranking cycles and hard or no start are symptoms listed in the special policy bulletin for replacing all 8 injectors. Check out THIS THREAD to check your VIN range. If it's included (it should be), it's covered. If it isn't included, talk with your dealer about it. They can still help you with this, if they are willing. They have broad discretion, but they have to be competent.

    Thanks for your interest. I have been told by GM Excutive desk and the local dealer that my pump warranty was only good until 36,000 miles. GM had given me a "case" number for the injector replacement as that it is what they though was the problem. VIN 3F14

    Looks like your VIN is included in the range. That's good. Your injectors are covered for 7/200K.

    The pump is an integral component of the engine, and therefore, covered by the 5/100K warranty. Your dealer should have covered it. It isn't too late. You can be reimbursed for all costs. Now, if the pump replacement didn't repair the original complaint, they should be reimbursing you anyway. My guess is they replaced a good pump. FPR's (fuel pressure regulator) can fail, but the pumps rarely do. If it is a pressure problem, the injector failure can cause the same codes as a failed pump.

    You need to insist your dealer at least reimburse you for the pump replacement. That's a huge chunk o' change that you should have never been charged. If your dealer won't play nice, find another one that will. They can help get your truck fixed rignt and get your money back. If the dealer that did the pump replacement has a bad reputation among other dealers in the area, the other dealers would love to take them down. It only takes one bad dealer to screw it up for the rest, and they will do what they can to remedy that. If you don't get immediate response from that dealer, initiate a formal complaint with GM customer service. You can either do this by phone, or through an uninvolved dealer that is willing to help you.

    Very informative morning! I paid the $100.00 at 99626 miles to troubleshoot this problem and they failed.

    That's good. You are, without a doubt, under the wire. If they replace your injectors, and the problem goes away, you can get your $100 back (along with the rest you've spent). Even if it takes 2 years and another 50K miles to get it right, your warranty claim mileage will be 99626. They are obligated to get it right, no matter how long it takes. At the very least, talk to another dealer in your area. Post your location and current dealer, and other members may suggest another dealer willing to help (this is a very large community, with lots of help).

    TO date: GM agreed to pay half of the fuel pump expense, I disagreed, finally dealer has agreed to rebate the charge for the fiel pump job, a GM speciacialist is coming to town to babysit the injector job, they wil loan me a vehicle while mine is down, the Service Manager has been terminated, not related to my deal. Hopefullu I will not have any lasting damage too my engine in this process.

    GEE WIZ!! Any GM tech with a brain would go after the injectors before the Pump!!! SI States so in the beginning of the hard start diagnosis. That is of course that th fuel and air filters are good!!! :::I have a brain::: Where you located at?

    Seattle area, today, 7-09/07 I am taking it in for a fix. Dealer now says they will rebate the fuel pump expense, give me a loaner and replace the injectors on warranty. Hopefully this will put it to bed!

    Got my 2500HD / Duramax back yesterday. Total downtime this Summer 49 days. Now have new injector pump and eight new injectors. Runs great. Dealer gave me a loaner the last three weeks. Odometer now 103,000.

    I don't understand the long delay from beginning to end of this process, total cost to me, zero $ at the end.

    Wow Frank!!! What took so long??? Was the dealer fighting with GM on coverage? Or were they just flipping a coin to see who got to work on your truck next?

    Glad you're back on the road.

    Been there, done that, and then some. I finally traded at 98K miles for fear of a fourth time, warranty or not. I couldn't care less about a stinking warranty promise on an inherent problem.

    I hope to goodness in all due respect that you have good luck and never have to deal with this again. I went through it three times. Long down time and all.
