    Default Power pump problems

Is there a check valve in the power steering/brake boost pump that can stick?

Went to leave this morning and no brakes or steering. Shut it back down, checked fluid level and it was full to top. Started back up again and revved it a little and all was well.

Are there any known problems to be looking for? Only has 66k on it 2006 K3500.

Would not be fun to have it happen while driving. . . . .

Hopefully just a fluke. About the only issue I've seen is the broken/sheared shaft and even that is not common.

For what it's worth- my 2001 had the same issue on a couple of occasions. Both under cooler temperatures, but I doubt that was a contributor. Of bigger significance was the age (~14 years) and mileage (in excess of 350K) at the time it happened. If I just let my truck idle for an extra minute or so, full steering/brakes came back.

I wondered the same thing (check valve) and suspected that the PS pump may have been a contributor. When I finally sold her, the steering was getting noticeably stiffer but still tolerable. Good luck.
