    The stamped-steel pan comes off pretty easily, but the aluminum crankcase is a bit more work - in the truck. If you expect to do more work (i.e. remove connecting rods, oil pump etc.), removing the engine might be a better option.

    Default One big headach

    Hello again, I now have the trans pulled away from the block. Just getting ready to go and drop the 2 bolts holding the upper pan in place. I guess I will just have to figure it out along the way. Replys are slow and not very forth coming. One thing that would be nice to know is what is the torque spec on the piston rod bolts. I will post again after the job is done to let everyone know how it went.

    What are you doing? Inspecting or replacing? Bearings usually aren't a problem on the DMAX engine. I personally have seen LB7 engines go 300K.

    Anyway, torque specs for the LB7 is::

    Well........... sorry, I just tried to look up the specs on the GM SI website. The website is currently down? I will try again later for you.

    Default Bad injector leads to # 3 cylinder melt down

    My injectors started to go. I took it to GM. They ran there diagnostics and found that the right bank was running a return rate of 61ml and the left was 42ml. They replaced the injectors and buttoned it back up. When running the truck for the first time they noticed a miss. Pulled the glow plugs and did a compression test. All cylinders were at 390f/lb except # 3. It was dead. They called me up and said do you have 5000.00 so we can fix your truck? I said I will do it myself. Right now I just have a fuel line to remove and a few motor mount bolts and the motor will be out of the truck by noon. I already took the head off and it has been repaired with a new valve seat and valve pluse a 2thou decking to make sure it seats on the head gasket the first time. Now I have to pull the piston and replace it. It is toast. Luckly there was little to no damage to the cylinder it self a light hone should do the trick. Once I have it back together I will run a compression test on it before I install the glow plugs to make sure I have good pressure on # 3.

    Well then you need LOTS OF TORQUE SPECS! If you are going to mount the engine to a stand, you need to remove the rear aluminum flywheel housing.

    QUOTE FROM GM SI::::::::::::::::

    Caution: Do not mount the engine to a engine stand by the flywheel housing. The aluminum flywheel housing is not designed to support the weight of the engine when mounted to a typical rear-mount engine stand. Mounting the engine stand to the aluminum flywheel housing may result in engine damage and serious personal injury.

    There are also three different thicknesses of head gasket plus a right and a left. You will need to check the piston protrusion of the new piston/ bearing assy before assy. Check your e-mail for the procedure. Remember to use new head bolts, rod bolts, crankshaft bearing cap bolts too................. You might try and get yourself a good manual for reference. This isn't your everyday 6.5 diesel!
