If you want a complete POS truck, then do the swap. I mean this for diesel conversions and going to gas both.

Just tail light the truck and buy a gasoline rig, someone will give you something for the truck as it is with the blown up diesel in it. Maybe they can fix it if you don't want to. Or sell both trucks and get something you want to drive. Gas trucks are very very common.

The only way I'd do something like this if if I had a complete wrecked gasoline truck with ALL the wiring (inside the cab and engine compartment) to do teh swap right, where you couldn't tell the truck was a Diesel before. Too much work to swap all the wiring, instrument cluster, gas tank, etc. You'd need another 1997-1999 gasoline donor rig to do this.

Sticking a TBI 350 (the 1995) engine setup would be really jicky, it's OBDI and your truck is OBD2. Future emissions testing etc would always be a hassle.

I've seen tons of 80's trucks that used to be 6.2L diesels with gasoline engines swapped in. They were always jicky unreliable trucks after the "conversion"

    Seriously...

    Pretty much all been said.

Your problem is the spread in model years.

It would have been a lot of work but if you had a gas and diesel gmt400 in the 96-2000 range it would have worked.

Or, you can swap the entire interior and harness from the 95 to the 98. Plus all the chassis and supporting bits.

What is wrong with the 95?

Depending on what's gone on it, it might be simpler to use the 98 as a parts donor (ie: body panels, etc) to get the 95 back on the road.

Getting the 350 into the 98 would be a mess, but swapping parts on to the 95 will work with 90% of the truck. You can even swap in the 98 interior if you do your research. Quite a few people have done it on a few other full size Chevy forums....wink, wink.

In a nutshell; your 95 truck gets a new life and your 98 dies to give it one.

annother issue you will run into is that the 98 year pickups and later have a transponder in the lock cylinder and coded key it would deffinately be an obstacle I have done a similar swap in a 92 I wouldnt to it again

My 98 k2500 has theft deterrent but it's in the column only.

    No transponder key.

    Maybe the 1500's are different?
