We don't get too cold around here but are going thru a little cold streak. Drove up to the store the other night, saw the the "fancy-ass" mirror was saying SE & 36 degrees. When we came out and drove home the mirror said (whatever the direction was) and ICE for about one minute, then to 36 degrees. Have not seen that before.

Anyone have a clue on this.
Not a big item, just curious.

thanx.

wangotango.

My truck also had ice displayed in the mirror today with a temp of 36.

This is the vehicle warning you of potential ice on the roads(pretty nice feature)

We even had some snow today in San Fran.

It's a really good safety feature. It can be well above freezing (say 35 or 36 degrees) and any water on the roads and bridges can be frozen solid. the Ice warning makes you think about the possibility.

I had it ONCE this year, and thats it! On top of that, it was in Arkansas! Wifes Tahoe does it too....

It should also have the "d@mn hot" reading.... I was in Laredo this summer at it was at 110....at 7:00P!!!!!! That place is unbelievable... their last snow was 29 years ago.

Most temp sensors / air temp gauges for cars will post the ICE message when the temp transitions from 37 to 36 degrees. This is the start of the danger zone for icing on bridges and is like the other posts say, a safety feature. Mine has flashed it serveral times this year even down here in "tropical" Georgia.

Was hunting in the Texas Hill country. A couple of times it alternated saying ICE and degrees for a few seconds and then just read degrees.

I kinda thought this was silly it telling me ICE when the whole truck was covered in the stuff.
Is a fun conversation piece though.
And BTW, there were several mornings when it was in the low 20's. I never plugged it in and I frequently forget to wait for the start light. It never failed to fire up and idle like it is supposed to, on the first atempt.
But that heater does take a bit to get warmed up. Hummm,,, maybe we need a timmer option to automatically fire it up about 15 minutes before hand

Does the temperature displayed go back to a degree reading or does it just say Ice below 36 degrees. I have seen -2F on my Bonneville readout. Its kind of nice to know how far below freezing it is.

Dealer called this morning and said they were unloading my Silverado 2500HD ext, sb, D/A off the truck. So, I may be able to check the temperature reading myself the next few days. It was 18F here this morning which is the coldest we have seen for several years at this elevation (3450FT)

You yankees don't even begin to know cold!! The temp last night here was -36C (which is pretty damn close to the same temp in F) The mirror is bang on down to that temperature too!! You guys don't know how good you have it - imagine going to move your truck and the tires have a flat spot on the bottom of them because the rubber is FROZEN FLAT!!!

Barc--Move to La. and you won't have that problem. Of course, you may die of a heat stroke!!

Mine has only shown ICE when it was 32 or lower and had ice on the windshield? Maybe it was just an coincident.

I just had this message show up for the first time today, and yes, it alternated between 36 and ICE.

Once it got even colder, it just said the temp.

Very cool feature and right on cue as ten minutes later I got stuck in a major accident on I-64W crossing the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Hi Max! I'm in SE Saskatchewan, about 60 miles from the US Canadian border - temps have been WAY above normal here lately. The little bit of snow we did have has pretty much disappeared. That makes me real sad when I think of the good times I could be having out on my Viper!!!

Barc,
Don't lump all of Canada into your temperature zone
Out here on the West Coast we seldom see freezing temps. Would love to have some snow to play around in
They don't even put block heaters in the trucks that get shipped out here

Kev

p.s. Haven't see the "ICE" feature yet. Maybe some day
