I just thought I might let y'all know that a D70HD is NOT bulletproof....even with a stock 6.2. I tried using granny gear to move my boss' mini excavator (on the trailer) up a very slight rise on the edge of a driveway, made it about six inches and BANG!!!! No go. turns out I have the rarest D70HD on the planet and all the junkyard axle shafts I could find were about 2" too short! I ended up buying a new one from Randy's R&P in Seattle, but still had to drill the correct bolt circle in the flange. Good news is that the new 'shaft is supposed to be 20% stronger than stock...bad news is, the other one is still stock. To make a long story slightly shorter, this all took from 1:00PM Wednesday to 10:00 Monday morning. Very frustrating when this happens to your only running work rig. I'm wondering if maybe this being a former off-road fire truck it had the ambulance package rear HMMMM...
