Thread: New Injectors with Old IP???

Default New Injectors with Old IP???

I have a 94 Sub with 132k and am planning on replacing the fuel injectors. They are original and the IP was replaced under warrany at about 30k, so it has about 100k right now. The pump seems fine, but the truck starts a little harder than normal, puts out some dark smoke under heavy acceleration, and MPG is lacking somewhat.

It seems time for new injectors, but am I risking failure of my 100k injection pump since the pump will have to work harder to pop the new injectors??? Any advice or experience is appreciated.

It will probably be fine... In general, injector POP pressures usually decline somewhat over time as they wear, and the fuel injection pump's fuel injection pressures also fall a little over time. As a set, this works fine, but new injectors with OEM POP pressures might produce harder hot re-starts when used with a high-mile injection pump - sorta depends on the condition of the components....
