Default Best 6.2 Diesel V-belt fan and fan clutch

Hi What are the best fans and fan clutches for the v-belt 1990 6.2 diesels. I remember seeing something about a motorhome model and maybe a chrysler one but have hunted thru the back posts for three days now and can't seem to find them. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

I don't think anyone has really played with the clutches besides re-calibrating the engagement temperature, but for the fan, I think you're right on it being a Chrysler.

I'm searching the forums trying to find the same thing.

GMCTD is the fella that stumbled upon that anomalie.

I think it would be a good upgrade, the factory fan needs more blades!

Found the thread about the chrysler fan. Came off New Yorker, Part number is 4117084. It was in the 6.2/6,5 tech forum dated 06/06/2004. Found one and have it ordered , will let you know when I get it if it is what we need.

    Default Cool!

Looking forward to the results... I have a feeling that others may have tried it but haven't posted much feedback. I may be interested in this very thing for my 86 Banks turbo pickup.

    Default Bad fan news

Well I have bad news, this number has been discontinued by Chrysler. That doesn't mean that they are not out there, they just don't keep them in the catalogs or in their warehouses any more. I have bought a 1972-1974 dodge 440 7 blade fan off E-bay that I am going to try in a few days, will let you know.

    Default 7 junkyard blades

I found 7 blade fan on a 350 powered truck in the junkyard which seems to work well. I think it may have been on a HD cooling optioned truck.

The truck had flex-a-lite on it when I bought it, and by the time I put a stock 5-blader on, it had blown head gaskets, so I really don't know if the 7 blade is any better, but I have no cooling problems towing heavy locally (no half-day trips).

Just one more place to look...

My stock '82 model fan and clutch work great, now that I've tweaked the spring that engages the clutch.

I just the bent the tab on the spring a bit and now the clutch engages much, much sooner. In fact, I may need to tweak it back the other way a tiny bit. It now engages even after just idling in traffic with the a/c on. After driving a mile or so, it kicks back out. Keeps my temps right on the money all the time now.

I'll probably just leave it where it is....

Yes - it's the New Yorker with HD towing package and the Motorhomes that had the GM 20" 7-blade fan with Delco HD fan clutch for clockwise rotation water pump.

Only problem, the gassers used the 5/8" impeller shaft, and the 6.2-5 is 3/4".

However, NAPA offers a Delco thermostatic HD clutch for the 6.2, so a suitable HD package can still be assembled.

Also, NAPA waterpumps are the same oem as GM uses.

Oddly enough, GM never llisted the 20" fan in the parts manuals.

Old Blue started life as a 75 chev 350 k10 4x4 w hd suspension cooling etc it had a 19.5" 7 blade fan which transfered right over to a 6.2 fan clutch without a hitch.
Which fit into a 78 454 fan shroud, good old chevy mix and match.
That fan blade and the frame is all thats left from the 75.
