    Default 1991 Ranger gas to DIESEL swap

    Anybody know of anyone who has made the gas to diesel switch in a Ford Ranger P/U?
    I have a 4x4 Supercab 5 speed Mitsubitshi trans, behind a 2.9 Ltr gas engine.
    Body and interior are perfect, frame has light rust.
    I do not care if it remains a 4x4 after the conversion. (anotherwards to get a diesel to work, a total removal of engine, tranny, and transfer case, whatever it takes).
    I read where one guy suggested a GM 6.2 ltr might. Would not that be TOO big to fit in the engine compartment, not to mention the weight?
    I am not out for performace, big towing power, my goal is mostly fuel economy.
    ANY suggestions, ideas, etc would be appreciated.

    The 6.2 is a large heavy motor,anything is posible if you like a chalange and have good mechanical skills.
    I did see a ranger once with a factory diesel motor,probly scarce as hens teeth.
    If you are using this just as a comuter i would look for a smaller motor,less work to shoehorn in and probly get better econamy.

    Probably better off using a VW diesel. I think there are adapters made for that at ACME .
    1993 K3500 - Peninsular 18:1 engine, marine injectors, high capacity cooling, AL Core Radiator, 3" DP and 4" exhaust, ISSPRO Gauges, Girdle, AMSOIL Dual Oil Filter System, 1997 Air Filter(trashed the K&N), 395K on Body, 165k on engine.

    I would probably stay away from a 6.2/6.5 for that. There are a lot of 4 cyl diesels that I think would work better in that. The VW diesel might be a little small. I would look for something in the 3.0L to 4.0L size for that.
    1987 Jeep Grand Wagoneer...new 6.5 in process...diamond block, 18:1's, other goodies...

    I think the VW TDI would be a good choice, especially with a chip and set of performance injectors. It would make more torque then the stock 2.9L Ford powerplant and still get great fuel economy (in comparison).
    96 Suburban K2500 6.5L TD. High miles and daily driven (for now). Remote mount FSD with cooler, Turbo Master/Boost fooler, 4" Jardine turbo back exhaust, 2.5" cross-over pipe, Boost, EGT, & Tranny temp gauges, working on more.

    Default conversions

    first you need to figure out how much hp you need and the fuel economy you desire as far as transmissions there are plenty of options you dont need to keep the original ford one dont be afaraid to think outside of the box this place has adptor kits for sae bell housings http://www.phxgrp.com/transmission.htm

    Keeping your facotry transmission/xfer case will greatly simplify the conversion. If you can buy an adapter plate/clutch set up, you might be surprised at how many issues 'go away'.

    Except for the problem of a 4-cyl tranny continuing to "live" long behind a diesel...
