What is most likely happening is the converter is draining down overnight and causing the no go when you first drop it in reverse.
Try shifting to N for a few seconds and rev the engine then back to idle and then shift to reverse.
The converter fill circuit does not work when in park. (Much slower)

Another secret of this is that if tou have an overheat condition and are parked for things to cool the tranny must be in N instead of park to keep the fluid flowing through the coolers

What happens is over time the check ball on the converter cicuit starts letting fluid leak down and thats the issue

Give it a go and let us know.
A good flush, filter change and new fluid may help things a bunch too

Amen! on the fluid change. I've only encountered this issue a few times (oddly enough, never on a 4L80E), but on a Ford C6, and a Mazda, and in both cases, fluid changes worked just fine.
