    Default Brake fluid switch-best fluid?

HI. I did a few searches but didn't turn up anything. I am looking to switch to DOT 4 fluid on my 99 'burb so I can minimize confusion at home. My VW specifies DOT 4. I didn't go through the manual or even look at the cap on the suburban, so maybe I'm asking a stupid question, but in any case, does anyone have any experience or suggestions on doing a fluid swap? And are there any negative consequenses I should look out for? I have thought about going to synthetic, but don't think it's necessary.

    Thanks.

Not sure. For some reason I think I remember seeing something about them not being compatible, but I really can't be sure.

But I did notice your location. I hope you and your family are safe, fed and sheltered. I wish you and your country the best. I'm proud to say that we have friends down there right now helping with the medical situation.

Do not swap regular fluid (DOT4) with the silicone fluid.

    These are not compatible.

    The DOT4 should be fine.

Some DOT 5 fluids are silicone some are not.

The basic fluids (DOT3, DOT4) are glycol based fluids and if you mix silicone fluid you get a mess.

Right, 3 and 4 are compatible with each other. Neither is compatible with 5.
