I have a couple of engines apart to rebuild and install into a 97 Jeep Wrangler. I would like to know the purpose of all the coolant sensors. Here is what I have, what I know and what I need to know.
1988 6.2 - 1 sensor (2 pin) on thermostat crossover, 1 sensor (2 pin) on right rear head is for glow plug circuit. A 3rd sensor is on left front head - it is a single pin like those on the pre 80's small blocks. I'm assmming this is for the guage and the crossover one is for the CPU?
1995 6.5 - 1 sensor (2 pin) on thermostat crossover, and 1 sensor (2 pin) on left front head. Again my assumtion is crossover one is for the CPU and the other is for the guage?
Ultimately what I need for the Jeep install is 1 for the CPU (this will be the original Jeep sensor), and 1 for the fast idle/ timing advance soleniods on the mech IP. The glow plug circuit should get along without a coolant sensor as it was eliminated on later years anyway.
Any thoughts? Thanks
