Default 6.2 and 6.5 block interchange?

My brother in law has a 2004 W-42 Workhorse that he tells me has a non turbo 6.5. The motor is blown and he is looking for a block. Do the 6.2 and the 6.5 blocks interchange? Thanks.

Found the sticky - wow, a lot of information, but I guess what I am asking is, can he substitute a 6.2 block or a 6.2 short block and use the 6.5 heads? The motor is a 2004 Am Gen 6.5L, 4GEPHO6.5CRD, if that makes any sense. Thanks in advance for any info.

Sure, the only difference in the short blocks is the size of the bore/piston combo.

The van engines with center mount turbo's have completely different cylinder heads than the side mount turbo versions though.
