    Inspector,

    I used to follow the oil discussions in the early days over on bobistheoilguy.com and back then it was commonly understood that M1 base stocks were "true synthetic" GROUP IV PAO. So when I saw your post I did some google searches and was surprised to find that apparently M1 had began utilizing group III base stocks in their formulations. The following thread is one example of discussions on this topic..

    Given M1's reputation as a quality lube I'm not sure this isn't a good development.. seems like UOA results with these lubes would be the test to say good or bad..

    Question

    The article was an eye opener. How can the consumer tell what Mobil 1 oil is a "Visom", grpIII PAO or grpIV/V? Is there an explanation on the bottle or some other indication as to what I am buying? This is very confusing.
