I need to get the number off splines for the 1982 and 1989 700R4 torque converter shaft. I was told the shaft size change in the mid 1980, please help.

Thanks for your reply. The previous owner replaced the original tranny with one out off a 89 gas model and it look like they installed the gas TC as well as the 82 diesel TC did not fit the 89 shaft. If I put my foot on the brake the revs goes up to around 2000 before it stall. A friend gave me a TC so I must count the splines to check if it will fit.

There are two sets of splines inside the TC, which is which?

I made a cable connection housing on top off the vacuum pump shaft to drive a mechanical rev counter and it work.

It should be the splines that are inside. If you look into the converter, you will see an inner set and an outer set - count the inner set.

Wait a minute what about this rev counter? Give us some instructions or pictures.
