    Default 6.5TD w/ AT542N

Bought a fixer'upper motorhome with 6.5td and alliston AT542N transmission. The 6.5 has only about 200 miles....just been rebuilt. The transmission was slipping a little....thought low fluid was the problem. Made it 40 miles before it blew transmission fluid all over my 84 ford ranger diesel. Have a quote from one repair for 4900 to rebuild the AT542. Talking to another shop that said they can't match up the serial number to existing stock, but if I can get the broken unit to them, they can fix me up. The question is, in talking to the second shop, they said my setup was on a gas engine. I corrected him that it is a diesel. He said it is running at 3400 rpm. Does anybody know the specs for a 6.5TD w/AT542N in a Spartan chassis motorhome? Any advice will be greatly appreciated...

The 6.2/6.5 motor home applications I know about all used either the TH400 or 4L80-E.

You can get a used Allison transmission for much less than $4900. The AT545 is a more common number one hears on for the old Allisons.
