    Default Changing Gear Sets

My truck (1993 2500 4X4) has 4.10 gears. I would like to change to a used set of 3.42 gears. Will my front and rear housings except the factory 3.42 gears? which shim packs do you start with? the ones with my housings or the ones with the new used gears?

Your diff carriers should accept 3.42's. Whoever is selling the gear sets should have a tech guy who can answer your questions regarding shims. Generally, the shims already in use offer the best starting point for setting up the new gears. You'll still need to set up the new gears correctly....

The following article will help get you pointed in the right direction.
