No, turbochargers were not offered from the factory until 1989, when the Banks aftermarket kit was offered as a dealer option (not many of these around), and then the actual GM turbochargers started appearing in late 1992.

Post a pic of the engine bay and we can help you determine whether you have an aftermarket turbo kit, or a retrofitted GM turbo system.

    Hmmmm....

You definitely have an aftermarket system there. It looks like a combination of two different companies.

The exhaust manifold and crossover pipe look like a Banks system. The intake manifold and air cleaner setup looks like an ATS system. Most ATS turbos I've seen, though, have the turbocharger facing the other direction, with the exhaust pointing forward and then down.

Someone else will have to chime in to positively ID that system.

This looks like a typical ATS turbo system.

These system were available for the 6.2 diesel but the company has since stopped offering them due to low demand???

The pictures are not clear enough to see all of the installation but this looks like a typical ATS setup.

    They did the job.
I liked the use of the stock air cleaner location as it kept the underhood arrangement sanitary.
