Can't complain about my 05 LLY. Great performance and very good fuel economy. Quick question though - how much smoke should I see. If I jump on it hard, I can see a very significant black cloud behind the truck. Doesn't fog the whole road but leaves a definite smoke pattern out the right side. I thought there was suppost to be very little or NO smoke. Truck is bone stock and never been to dealer except to check steering.

Is this normal? Thanks for the input.

I have never seen any 'black' smoke from my '05 LLY. However, I don't think I've ever 'floored' it from a dead stop, either. It does see short requests for full throttle under load, but rarely RPMs over 3K.

While spanking a Ford Thunderbird 0-90mph the other night, I did see a haze in front of his headlights - but not black smoke as you describe.

I must admit my 04.5 LLy amazes me when I'm under heavy acceleration, it smokes like all get out! She's bone stock!

Mine does the same thing. I didnt think the Duramax put that much out? It almost seems like it loads up and then when you punch it it cleans it right out.

Only see smoke a few time as getting on the big road and staying with the traffic.Don't always do it then.May just build up from around town driving
and then blow it out.Never thought of it as a problem.

I'd be curious how the smoke levels change with the latest "intake pop" calibration changes as they appear to decrease EGR psoitions/flow which may contribute.

Thanks for the replies. Guess this is one thing I won't be worried about.

    Kennedy,
Do you feel there will be a loss of power after the latest reflash to correct the turbo bark/pop?

    Thank You,

As far as I can tell there is NO loss of power with the new reflash! if fact it maybe a little more power on tap! I think if your guys are seeing gray smoke your fine, but if its black check your air filter! Boost stick will help with the black smoke also. Had mine refashed 12/23/05 , get yours done you will be happy you did.
