Default 83 GMC 3500 Cummins Swap

Last weekend I scored a decent 5.9L Cummins diesel. It is out of a Dodge 2wd truck, and I was told it was an 86 (I thought these weren't introduced into the Dodge trucks until 89). Its out of the truck, so I couldn't hear it run, but it looks to be in good condition. The guy who sold it to me is an old friend of my father, so I sort of beleive him when he said it ran good before he pulled it. Its got all accessories, turbo, down pipe and an automatic transmission on it. I did not get a chance to get the serial number off of it as it was getting dark when I picked it up. It wasn't free, but it was a very good price. I couldn't resist.

So I wasn't actually ready to start on the 83 yet, as I'm still getting the dump truck fixed. So I'm going to finish fixing up the 87, get it cleaned up and try to sell it to finance the 83 swap. The 83 was originally a diesel, and I had swapped a 454 into many years ago. Looking forward to swapping a diesel back in and cleaning up some mistakes I made the first time.

I'll keep everyone up to date as I build it. For those of you who have done a similar swap, what hurdles and solutions have you encountered?

You are correct, Dodge did not start producing their Cummins diesel trucks until 1989. It was a 160hp (advertised), 400 ft/lb engine non intercooled.
