Default 2006 lbz Black smoke on ACCELERATION

Hi All. I am new to the forum.

    I have a 2006 LBZ, 6 Speed Allison I bought used from a young fellow of 19yrs.

    It has 130000 miles.

Under acceleration, I get black smoke, and if the acceleration is hard enough I can limp it (Fuel limp P0087)

    Any Ideas?

    Thanks!

    Randy

The black smoke could be related to a number of things. Plugged air and/or fuel filter is the first place to start. It could also have poorly written aftermarket tuning or stuck turbo vane unison ring.

I'd recommend "base-lining" the truck to get a handle on what might be causing the limp. Base-lining means changing all fluids and filters, installing stock programming and other stock items (that could affect the code).

My LBZ will pump out a big cloud of black smoke on hard acceleration if I haven't done it in a long time. But it will only do it once. After that just power and more power. No limp ever so I guess I'm just blowing out the black stuff the newer models are trapping and burning.

168,000 on the clock and love it.
