Default 2006 2500HD CC SB LBZ Steering Rattle

After 17,000 miles I started having a rattle in felt in the steering wheel at low speeds on minor rough roads. Brick roads were the worst and it seemed to be the worst during mild turns. I took it to my favorite dealer and they replaced the upper steering shaft and also the lower steering column support bearing. All is well during the 55 mile drive home. Unfortunately the two dealers close to my home don't know their butt from first base thus the 55 mile drive, but worth the drive. The dealer told me they have had 3-4 other trucks with this same problem. Have any of you had this rattle/problem? If so, maybe the above info will help you. My truck is bone stock. Ed

    Default Steering Rattle

My 05 with 14000 miles on it is doing the same thing. I went throught this same thing with my 02. They replaced the intermediate shaft twice, did the the grease pack once and never got it completely fixed.

I'm wondering if there is a TSB on the 05 steering rattle ?

They told me they don't do the grease thing anymore. The new shaft "fixed" the problem. We shall see. Mine is totally fixed at this point. Ed

TSB #00-02-35-003H, I don't know if this is year specific. The old fix was a lube, the new fix is shaft replacement. There is a complete list on The Diesel Page under articles.
