    Default leaky K5 question

    Howdy
    I have done some internet searching but found no trusted answers.
    Does anyone have any experiences with leaking K5 blazer tops? This would be the older style with the removeable back half top, I think the years were 1976-1988. I have an 1986 and am haveing some leak issues. I have replaced all the rubber seals including tail gate. Would it work to seam seal over the rubber? I don't plan on EVER removing the top.

    The half top was used from 76-91

    The tops on these were prone to leaking once they had been removed, and after many years.

    My 89 leaks a bit.

    Normally, once you replace the seals they are fine.

    Where is the leak at ?????

    If its in the area wher the half top meets the forward section down in the bottom right behind the driver/pass seats, likely you have a crack in the sheet metal there in the right angle where the bed flange meets the verticle portion.

    If this is the case, the water simply wicks in and seeps right down and drip drip drip.

    This can be repaired easily by killing any rust with rust mort, and then laying a fillet of Bonded winshield urethane in there and allowing it to cure well (over night or maybe a couple days)

    Carefully slide the top back on and good to go.

    Let me know where yours leaks, and we can see what we can figure out.

    Howdy
    It was leaking around the windows. Had that Urethaned(sp?) now it appears to be leaking inside the B pillar from some place? It also seems to be leaking in the back window and out the access panel on the tailgate. Also seems to be leaking in the seems on the fiberglass in the back. I am going to use seem sealer on everything I can and then see what happens. The inside B pillar is the one that troubles me the most. This rig only has 60K miles but it has spent ALLOT of time just sitting the heat of West Texas.
    Any ideas would be welcome.

    The B pillar is common

    Like I said, the area at the joint of the top and the B pillar is a prime suspect.

    Get the inner panel off so you can see in there.

    Have a helper start squirting water from a hose (gently) starting low and working up the chassis in the area of the B pillar until the water runs in.

    Boom Plop done.

    One area thats a common leak area in the B pillar is the little plunger that protrudes into the door jamb area.

    This thing controls the seat belt lock mechanism and unless the little seal is intact, it will allow water to leak into the pillar

    IIRC, there is a little plastic cap that is supposed to seal the port when the door is shut, and these break off and then the water runs right down inside the jamb and through the hole and in.

    The tailgate is supposed to have a treated paper flap inside that deflects the water away from the cover.

    You can use strip foam seal and place it under the cover to stop the leak.

    Top leaks at the seams will take a bit of chasing.

    The joints in the top may be the culprit.

    Again, water from a hose sprayed carefully while you crawl around inside is the answer to find the source.

    Sun is finally shinning today, plan on seem sealing everything. I hadn't thought of the holes in the b-pillar, those are not used in the CUCV so I will just plug them. Rained all day yesterday and the inside was MOSTLY dry. I can see why the K5 are rust prone in some odd places, in the civilian version NON of the water issues that I am seeing would have been visiable, throw in a little road salt and rust be home fast!

    The problem is not the entry points,. its the lack of exit points,.
    Drill holes in the floor to let the water out!!
