Default New to the Diesels, With a question!

    I recently purchased a 94 Ext. Cab 6.5l turbo/auto

Firstly i want to make sure that all 3/4ton diesels had the 4l80e, and the truck already has the cat removed and a 3inch pipe back to the muffler (a flowmaster) Will cutting the pipe pre muffler and turning it out the side be a rediculous increase in sound over a catless with a flowmaster? Thanks for the help guys!

One other thing. a conical racing style filter, is it safe to run without an air box?

They either had a 4L80E 4 speed automatic or NV4500 5 speed manual.

I was just ensuring that it couldnt have a 4l60, as looking up the trans filter led me to both results for some odd reason

Greetings vsandme and welcome to the site, this is a remarkable group with extensive knowledge (though I don't happen to be one of them!) I took the cat off my 97 and put a 3 in straight pipe on. Folk tell me they can hear me coming from a block away but it isn't loud in the cab, though I did run it out the back. Good luck with your mods. Greatwhite and some of the other racer guys can speak to whatever you want to do to your rig speed wise, they are awesome help.

94-95 6.5's could be equipped with the 4L60E but only if they were the NON-Turbo version. All the Turbo 6.5's had the 4L80E for automatic.

It seems the Canadians got almost all of the non-turbo 6.5s w/the 4L60-E. I haven't talked to anyone in the States, that I remember, who has such a truck that didn't originate in Canada.

The 4L60 has an advantage.... It's more efficient in a light duty truck - for fuel economy.

counted the pan bolts anyways and of course an 80e. Fuelmileage would be helpful but I believe the 60 has 2 less clutch plates in OD making it a bit weaker. Though I could be wrong, thanks for the help
