    Default 6.5TD in a 70 K10

Hello, first time poster here. I am curently putting a 93 6.5TD in a 70 K10. I just pulled the motor out of my 93 donor vehicle, and I'm trying to figure out what else I need off the truck. I'm gonna grab the fuel pump, and the auxiliary oil cooler. The radiator is junk, so I need to source another one of them. I need to figure out what of the wiring I need. I've searched around on this sight for a while now, but I can't find a wiring schematic for a 93. My Chiltons only shows a 94. Is there one around here, or is there another source for one? Is there anything else I should grab? Thanks in advance.

what tranny are you going to be running?

sounds like a sweet project. the beauty of using that 93 is that is it MFI. the DB2 will have very litte in the way of wiring. i have a hanes manual that shows some schematics for the 93

I'm running an nv3500 5 speed. I got it really cheap, and I like the gear spread.

I was looking at the engine wiring on my engine today and it looks like the injector pump has a TPS on it. Is that correct? What is it for on the 93?

i disconnected the tps on mine and it ran fine.

also, i don't think that nv3500 will do the job. it isn't designed for the torque that the 6.5 will be putting through. hate to say it, but i would sell it and go to the nv4500 (cast iron)

I would also ditch the NV3500 as a 350 VORTEC can eat one for lunch, let alone what the torque of even a mild 6.5 can do. As for teh wiring, trhere really isn't much to it for a manual. You should have a temp switch on the engine that engages the high idle and cold start advance, a 12V+ for teh fuel shut-off solonoid, and then the glow plug controller which can be hooked up and manually activated when needed.

Yessss I agree, sell the 3500 and scare up a 4500 gear box.

As for the wiring you really need very little other than what you have on the older truck already.

Use the ignition coil "HOT" wire to run the injection pump.

Feed the ignition wire to a relay (low power required of the ignition wire) and then feed a 12 volt lead to the Fuel shut off solenoid on the IP and a second line through a 120 F temp switch in either the water crossover or the back RH corner of the RH head and feed the fast idle and the cold advance with it.

The advance, fast idle and the glow plugs are run by the ECM on these trucks.

Even with a manual tranny, they do have a small ECM.

You dont need any of that complicated mess.

As for the glow plugs. Ditch the controller on the 93 and use a Ford starter relay and mount it in a suitable spot.
Connect the two heavy main glow plug feed cables to the relay and then run a cable to one battery.

You will need to install a second battery tray/battery in the truck.

Install a momentary switch/button in the dash in a handy place along with light so you can see that the glow plugs are activated.

Use 60G plugs and glow for 10 seconds or so on a cold start.

You can use pretty much all the rest of the stock wiring on the older truck to feed the alternator, starter and other stuff.

No need to get all crazy about mods as you have pretty much all that you need.

Just be sure to feed the relay that runs the Injection pump using a #10 wire at least.

The original ignition feed will operate the relay just fine off the original circuit connected to the key switch.

Have fun and keep us posted.

Actually, there was no ECM on the '93. With a standard trans the most computing power it had was in the radio.

On mine, the fast idle, cold advance, temp sender, and IP are all connected, and then there are two wires that come out. Both of them are orange or pink, ones about 10g and ones smaller like 14 or 16g. Where should they go? I've got a build thread going over on 67-72chevytrucks.com.

Looks like a nice build. I have a 70 4x4 frame off resto with a 454. That was some work to get it to fit. They never put the BB in a 67-72 4x4 factory.
