I have a 02 duramax that starts great cold (3-5 revs) but after shut down for 10 min its very hard to start,15 -30 sec of cranking has developed a slight surge at idle no loss of power or mileage possible FPR? Ideas ? HELP!!

changed the FPR today , surge -gone , now starts when warm!!!
Glad you got it fixed. A tech with a Tech II scan tool can read fuel rail pressures at cranking speed. This simple test would have found a low rail pressure, which would explain the hard starting. The service manuals contain a fairly complete list of instructions for eliminating the various causes of low rail pressure.
