Default EGR on Ca 2003 LB7?

Today, out of the blue, I had SES light and code P0404 thrown twice. It is EGR "Open condition" related, so I did some searching. I've found info about the EGR and related block off plate for 4.5 to LBZ LLY Duramax engines, but nothing on LB7 EGR. I can't even locate it to check the blue wire that has been mentioned in threads. If anyone is familar with the California spec LB7 EGR stuff to point me in the right direction or to a thread somewhere, I'd appeciate it.

    thanks,
    siggy

Also, keep in mind that the 2002-2004 LB7 EGR that was used in the CA trucks is different than the EGR used in the LLY version. The LB7 EGR is vacuum operated and has a vacuum pump on the passenger side of the engine. The LLY version is not vacuum operated and there is no vacuum pump.

Thanks for the diagnostic chart! I had cleared the codes after reading them and they have not come up again, been almost 1K miles and all is good. I'm wondering if it was a fluke one-time event, or a preview of upcoming issues. This truck has been very solid and reliable so far, my fingers are crossed that things will remain so. 137,000+ happy miles, I keep telling myself I don't need to upgrade to a new truck. Over and over...

Default P0404 Code after Vacuum pump change

I have a 2003 2500HD with the LB7. I just replaced my vacuum pump due to failure. After the pump was replaced, and truck driven a little, the SES light came on. It came up with the P0404 code. I know it has something to do with the EGR but cant figure out how to diagnose the problem. I have read that it might not be the EGR itself.

The truck seems to run fine, no idle or performance issues. After the code was reset, less than 20 miles later the SES light came back, so did the P0404 code.

    Any thoughts????

I’ve been having issues with my LB7 throwing ses codes at me. A buddy pulled the code up and tells me I need to clean my EGR, my question is does my 2003 lb7 have a cooler as well? I can’t find them any where. Any help would be very much appreciated. If there’s a better way please help
