Default '82 Airstream motorhome with 454 Chevy

I'm planing to buy an Airstream motor home and replace the installed 454 Chevy for a diesel. A few where made at the factory equipped with turbo diesel Isuzus but they are very underpowered. Does anybody now of any other engines suitable for such a conversion? Thanks.

If you look at the thread I have going "Converting and early motor home to diesel" you will see that I will be replacing my 440 with a Duramax Allison combination. You will need to do something to get your engine rpm down to the proper range for the engine you end up using. One of the aspects of the Duramax I like is the wider usable torque range of it vs other diesels.

Good luck and I think we will both like our repowered motor homes.
