    Default manual TPS switch questions

I need to delete that TPS sensor.

But i cannot wire directly to the solenoid in the trans, as the wife will drive it, and she won't be flippin a switch all the time.

So i had hoped to reduce the 5v coming into the switch to the appropriate voltage (Say 1.5v) with a resistor, thru a switch, so that the factory functions would be retained, like braking unlocks, low speed unlocks, won't lock till 4th, etc.

    Any suggestions/ anyone done this?

Why do you want to delete the sensor?

The system works fine when it's adjusted properly.

The first TPS Sensors like you have (started in 88 with GMT400 trucks) are somewhat failure prone at this age. There are two connector types for the TPS's. The early (like yours) and the late (like used on say a 1993 6.5TD truck). They're the same sensor. The 1993 one is more reliable and cab be used if you make yourself an adapter. Cut the plug with enough wire on it off your old sensor. Cut the plug off the new sensor, then splice your old sensor's pigtail onto the new sensor (pinout is different) hence the need to swap wires.

The computer will still need to be working.

Adjustment is as close to .5Volt at idle (not less than .5) but close to it. You probe the wires to adjust it with a DVOM.

ooo you may make a valid suggestion.

is this sensor that you speak of the same on that's on the million other chevy trucks?

or is this a diesel only operation? Because I am unable to junkyard anything diesel; it's gone before it hits the yard.

i can find a million standard 88-98 gasser v8's. and they have black, grey, blue wired sensors (that are somehow not adjustable) on them.

but the bolt pattern isn't is as wide; the wings don't appear that they will stretch out to the holes i have on the side of my IP.

so the question is: what other TPS' can i scavenge to work on my 89 6.2?

TPS for an ’89 6.2 is an ACDELCO Part #14071076.

The gas versions all use an ACDELCO Part #2133859.

So, unfortunately, it appears to be diesel specific.

RockAuto has them for approx. $140 to $150.

yeah that was the mess i was trying to get out of, the $140 problem.. specially considering i could just put it on a switch, and flip it when i get to terminal velocity

~150 for a TPS is way cheaper than a transmission rebuild.

found one one amazon for $99 and bit the bullet. Genuine delco. went with the OE instead of the newer model, because easier.

The only downside to that is you had to deal with Amazon. Me personally I'd have paid more to not buy from Amazon.

    Glad you found a solution.

You Sir win 100 internets for such great advice. I was only able to hit .58v at idle, and it appears to be exactly as the engineer designed it; I get lockup when appropriate and unlock when needed.

this was a much better idea then a switch.

Yes I know amazon attended builderberg, but it's.. just too damn easy to do. 2 day free shipping and my truck was back to 13 degree cold starts without a block heater in no time.
