1982 K20 Payload?
I've been searching and I see lots of information saying my towing capacity is around 6500lbs, but I'm looking for payload capacity.
I have a bet going with a coworker.
My K20 is a plow truck and I added gravel to the bed for some ballast to help with traction. He thinks I significantly overloaded it. I think it's fine.
Just curious if anyone had the real numbers for these trucks.

85 K-5, 6.2, SM465, Rockwell T221, 1 tons, 36's. More goodies to be installed as time and money allows.
82 K20, 6.2, SM465, NP208, stock except for bed rack, snow plow, and glow plugs are on a toggle switch. It works great for plowing!

The GVWR on my K2500 is 8600#. I’ve been doing some work around my place, so have been getting gravel at the local quarry. Empty scale weight has been around 5600#, so they have had no problem giving me a load of a ton and a half (3000#).
I will say that I really wouldn’t want to just regularly drive around with that much weight onboard.

I had 2100 lbs of D-1 put in the bed.
Takes up almost half of the bed. I placed it as far forward in the bed as I can.
When I have the plow up, the truck sits level, with the plow down, the tail is slightly lower than the nose.
I love the traction on this truck now. The old Goodyear workhorses don't slip, at all.

My 83 has a GVWR of 8600 lbs. Original equipment was plow pkg, towing pkg, 4 speed auto, and 6.2L diesel. I can't remember the empty weight but I seem to think it was nearly 5000 lbs.
Actual payload in a lot higher in a K20 than a K30, as the K30's had a 9000 lb GVWR, but were much heavier than the 400 lb GVWR difference.
My V3500 dump truck has a 10K lb GVWR, but its empty weight is like 7500 lbs.
