Cool Is my turbo about to die? 2007 LBZ w/7000 miles

    Hello all-
Quick question concerning my 2007 with 7,000 babied miles. I have noticed that immediatly after I shut the engine off and walk around the front side of the vehicle, I can hear a rumbling noise, that slowly tapers off. I am almost sure this is the turbo coming to a stop after the engine is turned off. I have never noticed this sound before, with this truck or any of my previous duramax's. It sounds kinda like rocks rolling around inside a tin can, that slowly diminishes. Is my turbo bearings on their way out? What do you dmax guru's think?

    Thanks in advance!!

my 07 classic is doing the same sine new. now i have 2600km on it. I don't think it is the turbo, sounds more like a air condition compressor to me or the coolant fan.

One of the first things I noticed on my '07 LBZ was that sound. It has done it since new and it now has almost 8,000 km on it. I never noticed it on my '03 LB7.

I hear the same noise on the 07 LBZ I just got yesterday. It has 247k on it, I was thinking the turbo might be bad, but now I dont know.

Scooby, I'll bet it is the air conditioner coolant pressure relieving itself through the evaporator valve. I hear it on my '05 as well.

Turn off your AC, go for a drive (without the defrost setting putting air on the windshield because IIRC that defaults the AC to ON) and see if you still hear the sound on shutting down.

Its not the refrigerant equalizing in the system. I know that sound well. I havent been running the air either. Its the turbo rumbling. Sounds like it needs grease. I'll look for the grease fittings. (Just kidding.) I ve been trying to get my Ultragage to work in this truck so I can watch boost and other parameters, but so far I cant get it to power up from the OBD port. Also my lighter outlet doesnt work. I wonder if a fuse is blown.

On these newer trucks they have a panel where they ganged the turbo zerks along with the ones for the muffler bearings and the blinker fluid filler neck. Just look for the blinking LED's to locate it!

I found the cig lighter fuse blown under the hood. Replaced it and now OBD port has power, and ultragauge works. I haven't looked at all the gages it can display, but I did see boost psi and fuel rail pressure.
