Default The D-max took a crap

Can anyone explain possible causes? At Lowe's getting ready to leave, cranked the truck, drove out of the parking lot onto the street, approach the stop sign and the truck dies, brake goes to the floor, and stereo says "LOCKED" on it. Refused to crank. Finally called a tow truck. Any ideas? Truck has been running fine before this.

The Passlock (anti-theft) activated. Could be a number of causes, including PCM/BCM failure, loose connector, loss of power, chafed wire, ignition switch failure, etc. The dealer should be able to ID the problem relatively easy. Unless it's something obvious (connector came loose), a Tech II will be needed to ID the problem.

You could try resetting the computer(s) by disconnecting both negative battery cables and grounding the positive circuit (jumper the batt+ terminals to ground, NOT to the batt- post). It takes up to an hour (leave it shorted for at least that long). Success with this varies with model year, and I haven't tried it on a truck newer than 2005 (2006+ may be different, and you didn't specify which you have). Problem is, even if it works, and the truck drives, you don't know if/when it will happen again. It's best to get it diagnosed/repaired while the problem is fresh. Once you reset the computers, the codes will clear, and you won't know what caused it. Maybe a once-in-a-lifetime glitch. Maybe not.

Awesome. That makes me feel a little better. It's a 2005 LLY. I was thinking maybe had to with some sort of anti-theft device given the stereo displayed locked. It was very random as it's the first time since having the truck brand new this has happened. Hopefully, the dealer will let me know tomorrow. Thanks for the reply.

Well, the dealer told me the truck lost prime at the fuel filter housing. Tech said he primed it up and it cranked fine. I don't believe that because I tried the exact same thing and it didn't work. Said it was caused by a leaking filter housing. They put a band aide on it and ordered me a housing, which is back ordered we'll see what happens now.

You may have a fuel filter assy issue (doubt it), but it still doesn't explain your "dead on the road" incident or the Passlock lockout. Did they attempt to address the Passlock, at all? There should be a DTC stored, and maybe a snapshot in the BCM (depends on the fault, but you have to LOOK for it). You need to check these soon, because they will disappear after so many warm-up and/or ignition cycles. Then, whatever happened the first time will likely happen again, and that dealer will try to sell you another filter assy.
