I just recently bought a 87' Chevy C20 Camper Special with a 350 gas. I was just wondering about the feasability of swapping in a 6.2. How extensive would this be? What would all be involved in the swap. Thanks,

I am in the process of doing that and the best advice that i can give you is buy a donner unit first. Some changes to be made
vacuum to hydro-booster for brakes
transmission - torque converter if auto
clutch pack if standard
gearing - 2 wheel or 4x4
Cooling system - bigger rad
suspension - 6.2l is heavier
Electrical - glow plugs and dual batterys
fuel - return lines
Search this web site there are many articals and books written on the subject.
But Above all else it can be done--but it is a lot easier with a complete donner unit and when done put everything into the donner that is left over and you have a second one to sell or drive. IMHO
1985 K1500-sold
79 dually 4x4-soon to have modified 6.2/6.5l turbo
1996 shortbox-extended cab 2WD 1500 6.5L
I have been there done that with my 6.5 in a 80.
If I were to do it today I would get a 4cyl cummins from The Diesel Depot and go that direction.
A properly tuned 4 cyl cummins will match or exceed a modded 6.2/5 for power, besides I like to things just a little diffrerent than normal.
Will say however that if a donor truck is used the 6.2/5 conversion is a walk in the park, everything is bolt in.
biggest job was to slide the crossmember back a tad to use the 700R4.
Good luck, its a fun project, Merle
