Default 6.5L Turbo Diesel - Crank Case Breather Elbow/Tube

On the 6.5 Turbo Diesel, does the Crank Case Breather Elbow/Tube (going from the Air Intake Turbo Elbow to the Crank Case Tube/Pipe) have to be the original GM Part, or does a regular 3/4" water hose suffice since there is only air going through there anyhow?

    Any advise?

    Thanks in advance.

It's not just air going through there. The hose needs to be compatible with engine oil. Heater (water) hose works, but you'll have to replace it more often. Oil will soften it much quicker than the OEM hose. Heater hose doesn't make sharp bends well, either. They will usually kink once exposed to underhood temps.

    Unhappy crank case elbow/tube

I had mine crack too, trouble is the tube reduces to 5/8" at the air intake hose, I made a temporary fix by using piece of washmachine hose and a 3/4" copper elbow and 1/2" reducer. I was worried that the hose would deteriorate and pieces would get into the turbo, so bit the 'Bullet' and got the GM hose , $28+ cdn, got hose and HOSED !!! Don't think it is available any where else. Oh well the cost of driving a Luxury vehicle lol!
