Rear brake caliper bolt
Hello guys. On my 01 Dmax I have a star type bolt on my brake caliper. I am replacing all calipers, pads and rotors. All of the rest of the calipers are regular bolts, however there is only one that has the "star" type bolt head. What size is it and where can I get a socket for it? No one seems to know (Auto Zone and NAPA). Thank you.

I've not seen one on the 2001+ trucks (yet), other than standard 6 point caps. It's interesting that you have one different than all the others. Is it the caliper adjuster bolt, or for the caliper bracket? By "star", do you mean a torx socket head (internal star), or a 12 point cap (like a regular bolt, only star shaped). If it's a torx, other GM brake caliper adjuster bolts I've seen (on full size cars) were T-50 size. If a cap, try your 12 point box end wrenches. If it's a spline or 8 point cap, I don't know, as I've never seen one used on GM calipers.
If this isn't helpful, or you don't get the answer you need here, post a pick of the bolt head, and the measurement of the inner and outer most dimensions (use a dial caliper, metric if possible), and I can identify it.

It's probably a T-55 then, and not the T-50. Brake jobs on these trucks are so rare (compared to previous years), memory doesn't serve well. Why he has one different than the others is the puzzler, though.Originally Posted by Ponderosa JT

I have an '01 Dually and it has the Torx 55 bolt on the brake caliper, and it is Freakin' tight! I got my Torx set at a NAPA store no one else had them locally. Make sure you get the 1/2" drive and a breaker bar. Watch those knuckles...

I had one that fought me hard. I took a hammer ans whacked the casting near the bolt and that really did the trick. Just "ringing" the threads can do wonders sometimes.

Thanks guys. I will go to NAPA. It looks like a regular bolt head, except it looks like a 12 point. I will take a photo of it and post it on here. Thanks for everyones input!

If it is a 12 point cap, regular box end wrenches and 12 point sockets will fit.
