Thread: 6.5 Alternator pully needed

    Dealer says "not available" anymore.
    I screwed up when I replaced my alt a while back.
    I noticed that the pully on the new alt was smaller, thought it was just to increase shaft speed and charge rate, sent the core back in for credit. It's long gone now.
    Come to realize that now my tach is way off, 2800rpm at 75mph. I don't know my rear gears for sure but I'm thinking even with 4.10s thats outa wack.
    Any one have one ? or know where to find it?
    I called parts houses, and a few 6.5 specialty places and no luck.

    Around here, anyone that rebuilds alternators will sell you a pulley and install it. 62mm or 2.44" seems to be the most often recommended size. The number of poles inside the alternator make a difference, too.

    That's the same RPM I run at 75 and I thought I had 4.10's. Turns out my pully measures about 2 1/4" dia. I must have the same problem.

    Are all the TD's 62MM? The alternator shop said most '94's use the 2 1/4" pully. Could they be reffering to the gas engines and all the TD's use the 62mm. How do I know which is the right size.

    Most '94s were gas. As far as I know, ALL 6.5s use the 62mm pulley, measured at the surface the belt rides on.

    Thanks John. That's good news for me. Means I have 3.73 gears not 4.10's. I will pick one up tomorrow. They want a whole $6.00 for one.

    Just to add to the confusion:

    I have in my hand the correct pulley. I know this because the chain of custody is verified from the day I picked it up at the dealer's with 7 miles on it 'till today. The OD of the flange is 2.6" (66mm)and 2.41" (61mm) at the peak of the grooves. It has 6 grooves.

    I also have in my hand an auto electric catalog. The folks I got the catalog from told me that the OD measurement in the catalog corresponds to the OD measured on the outer edge of the flange. (They could be wrong.) If not, the closest pulley for the CS130 is 66mm. There are a whole slew of them that are close, and more if you count the ones that are close to 62mm. Does anyone have the Delco part number handy?

    Anyhow, If we can figure out which one is the right one, and the need is there, I can order them. The price would be around $5.00 plus shipping. The pn on the 66mm pulley is 10476225.

    I bought it yesterday at Auto Electric in Bloomington MN 952-888-0886. The $6 part was from A&B Auto Electric and was farther away and I was going right by Auto Elect. in Bloomington. A&B's was stamped and they gave me the part number and the info. I just asked for the part number and that's what I got. Part number is 24-1250 and it is machined steel, not stamped. The price was $8.44 plus tax. It mesures slighly over 2 1/2" OD althought they call it a 2 7/16" dia. which is 62mm. That may be the pitch diameter of the pully and not the OD.

    My supplier uses a different numbering system, so probably a different manufacturer, and a different measuring system, i.e. outside diameter. They do cross to the Delco number, though. Anyone know the original part number?

    Look at the above mentioned article. It says "Member John Holt acquired the chart on the left from American Armature in Dallas, Texas. John indicated that the #24-1250 pulley represents the factory alternator pulley diameter for all 6.5 diesels." They show the diameter measured at the top of the "V" grooves for the belt, not the OD of the pully. This would make the 24-1250 a 62mm (2 7/16") dia. pully. My RPM now correctly reads 2050 at 65 MPH. Too bad that drop in RPM reading didn't improve my mileage.
