this is my 1st diesel vehicle...

I was planning on doing oil & filter changes at the following intervals...

500 miles

1000 miles

1500 miles

2000 miles

3000 miles

5000 miles (Alli outer filter as well)

And then change Oil & Filter after every 3,000 miles because alot of the miles will be stop & go miles.

Is that too much? too little?

It's about 10 gallons more oil than I went through in my first 5,000 miles, and the book says you can leave it in there until the light comes on, which will probably be more than 5,000 miles. But you won't be worried that you didn't change it often enough.

I'll let you know in about 10 years if my schedule is adequate. Every 5,000 has been OK so far on the '91 gasser, but then again I do mostly highway miles.

Everybody has an opinion, but in the end you do what you're comfortable with.

I do that with my 350 engine as the filter
hangs straight down. How do you fill the
filter on the D-max ........ do you turn your
truck sideways? :D

Does the oil drain plug have a crush washer or an O-ring. My dealer did not know so I have new oil filters but no crush ring.

56Nomad ,

HE HEEEEE ...

What I will do, is what I refer to as PRE WET my filter cartridge ...... I'll fill it till it's full, then drain it off ...... Less mess, but yet affective ......
