Been gone quite a while had my first real reason to get a dmax suburbon. Daddy's little barrel racer. 7lbs 6oz. I read in a ASE news thingy that all of the auto industry with the constant increase in the size of alternaters is gearing up to go to 42volt systems!!! No not 24 but 42! Wierd huh? So what does this have to do with diesels? Instant heat glow plugs! Wait to start just got faster. The article said that we should see this on American cars in about 4 or 5 years and on everything by 2010.

Congrats on the new baby !!!
I sure hope you are wrong and its just a rumor. Sure will make buying electrical parts far more expensive untill it becomes the norm (20+ years)

42V means smaller (lighter) wire to carry the same power. The future will see electrically powered accessories such as A/C compressors. This would allow the compressor to be easily remotely mounted, instead of having to use space around the front of the engine. 42V is a 100% certainty, it is only a matter of time.
