Oil Drain Plug

Hi all,

Does the oil drain plug use a crush washer or
O-ring?

I am going to replace the oil in the Duramax for the first time soon and when I bought the filters the dealer did not know whether I needed to get a crush washer as well.

It`s a washer but you shouldn`t have to replace it the first time but that`s up to you.

I got 7 oil changes on the original crush washer and still working fine. I am sure at some point depending on if gets over tightend it will need replaceing. smile.gif dont get to worried if you get a ticking noise after your first oil change , mine like most started right after its first change and stopped around 10K. you may also notice a strange smell coming from the "road tube" for some reason when the oil gets changed it gets a odd smell for a few hundred miles after? One more thing If you have a skid plate you may want to trim off a inch around the drain plug the oil when its draining will fill up the top of the skid plate!!

ha- 7 oil changes with the same crush ring,, you obviously didn't go to MY dealership!! Our first fluid change- 1000 miles, truck started leaking oil in the driveway, (well we only noticed it in the driveway)...started her up, and low and behold the "low oil" light came on...mind you this was the NEXT DAY....had to throw in some nasty 10W-30 oil that was sitting in the garage, to get it back to the dealerships....idiot lot boy crushed the crush ring...

be very careful with them, I don't think it was the best thing to happen to our 1000 mile truck, though with close to 30,000 on her now, she's runnin fine and no ticking anymore..that lasted until about 18,000 miles, intermittently..I think the older they get the quieter they get..almost like a baby- they can "pacify" themselves now no more buggin me with a darn ticken!

I would make a small investment in a Fumoto
valve. It is the best thing since sliced bread.

I even changed my oil in the campground in BC and
did not spill a drop of oil!

Hey bora,

Thought I'd ante up here. GET the Fumoto valve.!! You won't have to worrry 'bout washers, o=rings again. If you want extra "protection" use a cable-tie to secure the handle closed.
