My alternator just went out... (Battery light on all the time)
At the same time the tachometer stopped working. Are they "linked" to each other somehow?? Or are they both a individual problems.

Thanks.

Tach signal is received from alternator. Be sure the new alternaor has a 63mm pulley (I beleice) for proper calibration.

Does anyone know the part number for the correct pulley ?

thanks

My Alt went bad a month or so ago, took to the local auto elect shop, cost me around $35.00 to have the rectifier replaced, lot better then 300 for new.

My 2nd rebuilt AC Delco alternator went bad last winter so I replaced it with an Autozone Duralast Gold series. It has been great and keeps the voltage meter no less than 14 constantly - much better than any of the AC units in my experience.

I was considering an Iceberg unit from alternatorparts.com, but from the looks of it I wouldn't have been able to do a 15 minute parking lot swap. The Iceberg unit has large cooling fins you need to make bracket changes for.

62mm where the belt rides. Approx 2.44". Ck out part # in the members section I think it's listed there.

My tach went out today, and it appeared that the alternator wasn't charging. I called the local dealer, and he tried to tell me it was likely the instrument cluster. He had no idea why the tach would have quit with a bad alternator!

Could you list the part #. I cant get into the memebers section for some reason. And I ve asked this question before as well. But since its been so cold, I havent gotten out to measure the alt pulley , but I thought my tach was off as well. Plus my volt is always 12-14, I thought it would be a little higher. But looks like thats the normal reading.

John indicated that the #24-1250 pulley represents the factory alternator pulley diameter for all 6.5 diesels. They show the diameter measured at the top of the "V" grooves for the belt, not the OD of the pully. This would make the 24-1250 a 62mm (2 7/16") dia. pully. My RPM now correctly reads 2050 at 65 MPH.
