Wow! It pays to brouse the forum! I read about the free fuel filter from GM and rushed right down to my dealer to check it out. Sure enough, they are putting in a new filter FREE OF CHARGE!! If you haven't gotten yours, run, don't walk down to the dealer as this offer ends on the 31st of SEPT.

Where do you find the free fuel filter info, who is it for? I just had mine changed at dealer for 62.18 usd. Should it have been free?

SORRY !!!!!

The free filter is only for the 2001 2002 model years, it is these trucks that have experienced all the damage to their injectors and fuel pump.

OH WELL

good luck

My problem is that I bought a case of the old fuel filters from diesel dynamics for my 2001 d-max and recently bought a 2005 d-max. They won't replace them because they say it is not a recall. I was hoping for at a least a discount offer or some incentive to reorder--I guess I'll be ordering from someone else (even though I understand DD's position on the situation). Maybe I'll still use them but change them every 5,000 miles---any ideas?
thanks Frank

I have a 2003 without any injector problems and they did mine free so it appears the comment about this being only for 2001/2002 is not correct.

I just recieved my letter today, for my free filter on my 2003 duramax. good untill 9/30/2006. So it is not just for the 01/02 trucks only.
And i do get great service from my dealer.

I received the recall letter today for my 2004. So the recall extends through to at least my early 04 LB7.

Letsgo said it was for the 2001 - 2002 years. Not so! I have a 04 and they just replaced mine.

thanks Frank Add a secondary filter would be my suggestion. The single layer units seldom (if ever) began to show restriction. The new ones have been restricting somewhat earlier which shows better dirt stopping capability, BUT the size is too small for filtration at that level. Having a much larger element like the Mega after the OEM allows super tight filtration without restriction.

FYI, the bulletin/notice has now been sent for 2004 models as a buddy with an LB7 just got his in the mail.
