I know some of you have hooked up a gauge to check the exhaust pressure.

Today I also hooked up a temporary gauge. When I was running 15 psi of boost, the needle on the exhaust gauge was bouncing very fast from 5 to 15 psi. It was going so fast that it made the gauge vibrate and give off a very annoying noise. You could even feel the pulses in the line if you touched it. Did any of you guys have experience the same thing?

Bill Heath has done quite a lot of exhaust backpressure study. May need to coax him into an article.....

The pressure fluctuations you're seeing could be due to a similar flutter of the wastegate control valve in the turbo or due to individual cylinder exhaust impulses. At 2000 rpm, there'll be 1000 exhaust cycles per minute or about 17 pulses per second.

I have an exhaust pressure gauge at my exhaust brake (BD) I do not see any pressure when the throttle is pushed, only when using the exhaust brake do I see pressure. I do have a wide open 4" exhaust. smile.gif

How do we coax Bill into replying on this topic?
