specific injector problem - what is it?

The problem with the injectors causing the engine to "make oil" - exactly what happens to cause this? Do they simply leak fuel or what is it? I mean is it a poor quality (bad batch) of injectors or an inherently poor design? My truck has old "dumb injectors" rather than the new designs that were required for emissions....

Causes: ball seat erosion, cracked injector bodies, loose/leaking fuel return line fittings.

The injector body issue was dealt with, and was identified as being a somewhat narrow window of production.
