I'm about to 14K miles on the truck and I had my heart set on buying Mobil 1 Delvac 5W-40 yesterday, but nobody had it. I went to the A* Zone and the W* Mart. The A* Zone doesn't even carry it. The W* Mart had some 5 gallon jugs of everything but. They had one small container of the Mobil 1 truck and SUV flavor for diesel and gas. I would go with the Rotella T synthetic if it had CI-4 on the label. Of course I didn't see that either. Anybody have some reliable sources?
Thanks,
Ken

Give The Diesel Page Advertisers (http://www.thedieselpage.com/vendors/main.htm) a try. Many of them carry lubricants, including synthetics. Shop them all, most brands are represented.

Do yourself a favor and don't ask "which one is better" in the open forum. That can of worms hasn't been opened for a while. Too many opinions to gain any real insight, IMO. Search the treads if you must. There were a bunch of them.

DmaxMaverick,
Thanks for the tip. I was not going to bring up the question of which brand is better. I'm pretty neutral and I have read a lot of the posts on synthetic oils. Amsoil, Shell Rotella T or Mobil 1 Delvac all would work for me. I was just hoping for a quick trip to the parts store and it doesn't seem to be in cards.
Thanks,
Ken

The Wal-Marts around here carry 5w40 Mobil-1 Truck and SUV which is the same as DELVAC-1 (repackaged for the consumer market).

Both Rotella T Synthetic (http://www.shell-lubricants.com/products/pdf/RotellaTSynthetic.pdf) and M1 Truck & SUV (http://www.mobiloil.com/USA-English/MotorOil/Oils/Mobil_1_Truck_SUV_5W-40.aspx) are CI-4 rated.

I had to visit (2) different Wal Mart stores AND an O'Riellys to scrounge up 10 quarts of Mobil 1 Truck & SUV oil smile.gif

I went to the Mobil web site http://www.prod.exxonmobil.com/channelpartners/ns_distributor_directory***p and looked up a distributor in my area. It was not any place I would have thought of, back in an industrial park. I called them up and picked up my Delvac 1 the next day. -rod

Rod,
I was looking for a Mobil page like that. Good work. I found a dealer in Phoenix I'll call tomorrow.
Thanks,
Ken

Another success story. What did we do before the internet when we needed oil? Unbelievable, I wanted to run Delvac 1, but couldn't find it anywhere close around, settled on Shell, so far running flawless.

I full time with a 5th wheeler and have all Mobile 1 Delvac dropped shipped 4 gallons at a time from

http://store.avlube.com/fonfacsizcol.html

to where ever we are going to be in about a week. Last shipment was about $83 with UPS charges. If you can find at a truck stop it will run about $30/gal.

I have 7K on the current oil change and the stuff is still clean. The computer says I have 40% engine oil life remaining. And I do a LOT of towing.

Pretty good stuff...

Well I ended up going with Avlube on-line ($112 with shipping for 4 gallons). I went to 3 Phoenix Walmarts and they all carried the Truck and SUV flavor in quart containers which I balked at buying. I was hoping for the 5 quart jug. In hind sight buying 10 quarts at Walmart would've been cheaper. The local Exxon/Mobil commercial distributer wanted a PO before buying, which is not that big a deal, but the sales person kept telling me they had the Delvac 1300 (non synthetic Mobil 1) in stock. Next time I'll try another method.
Cheers,
Ken

Ken,
The place I bought it from was in Mesa, around Stapley and Rt 60. They asked for no PO, they just got it in, I paid for it in cash. If you are interested, I'll send you their contact info. By the way, do you happen to know of any excellent Duramax mechanics here in the valley of the Sunstroke?
