Blocking Off Air Plenum

Does blocking off the Air Plenum do anything? My connection has a really iffy hose that was originally put on incorrectly, and Im afraid it might be letting dirt into the engine.

I tried blocking it off shortly after I received my truck, but it didn't seem to make any difference, performance-wise or sound-wise. I believe it's there simply to muffle intake/turbo noise, but that's just my (sometimes mistaken) understanding.

I blocked mine, seems to give a bit more whistle to the engine. It also increases the "roar" going down the road at cruise speed.

NO performance gain what so ever. Just a bit more noise.
