I'll tell you, what a difference seeing one in person makes. It looked real good. The pictures do not do it justice.

The only thing I notice is it is quite a bit bigger than a SuperDuty so it seems GM has decided to concede the F450/F550 personal use size to Ford. The reason I say this is I personally know a few people using the F450/F550 size truck for pulling higher loads than a GM/Dodge can handle but they still enjoy a managable size truck.

I guess it's a cost savings/market strategy where GM and Dodge have decided not to pursue. Not that I care, I have no use for a truck larger than mine.

i believe that ford is coming out with a f450 production version of the truck that comes with bed. it won't be a conversion, but straight from the factory

Friend of mine has an F550 with a PU bed. He basically ordered the stuff seperate and put it together.

i think Ford has a winning idea with the F450/F550. and now that they will offer a pick up bed is just a great idea. ford is leading the market with good idea's.

Yep, Ford is leading the market in good ideas alright!

Ford has had 4wd F-450/F-550's now for quite a few years.

GM just sits there and watches those FORDS roll of the FORD dealership lots, one right after the other.

GM had it going in the right direction with the 3500-HD, but failed when they didn't offer it with 4wd. Now they changed the body into a van type front end???

Wouldn't it have been MUCH cheaper/easier to just use the pickup cab?

Still haven't heard of one of the 4500's available in 4wd though!

Oh well.....sit and wait!

4500's will be available in crew cab and factory 4wd next production year. I guess that's 2004. This is what I am waiting for, though it is difficult since my local dealer just got in an Indigo Blue 4500! I hace driven the chassis cabs with the D/A combo and with the D/ZF and they were both great. There is something to be said to be driving something a little bigger than a pickup that is just as fast. :D

[There is something to be said to be driving something a little bigger than a pickup that is just as fast.].....and ugly as all get out!

I just went over to GMC and Chevy and checked out the C series (TopKick/Kodiac)'s. Man oh man, I dont think you could get any more ODD looking. Sure, I know, they're just work trucks, but I think a nice body lift on a pickup cab would LOOK 10,000% better.

Do like the 16K GVWR. Is the 1000 series Allison enough for these trucks with 30+,000 lb. GCWR'ings?
The c-6500 and up use 2000-3000 series Allisons.

The perfect Landscape/Small Contractors dump was/is the 3500HD. IF they had just made the option of 4wd FACTORY....
